Canoeing the mighty Yukon River

The section of the Yukon River between Eagle and Circle contains some of the most spectacular and unspoiled scenery. For about 158 miles the Yukon meanders through mountain ranges and past spectacular bluffs in which 600 million years of geologic events are documented. Shortly before Circle the river enters the eastern portion of the Yukon River Flats. Between the towns of Eagle and Circle most of the land on either side of the Yukon is part of the Yukon-Charley Rivers National Preserve.
The towns of Eagle and Circle permit an in-depth look at the short but intense history of the gold rush. Rich in human history, the banks of the Yukon bear faint traces of the lives of natives, trappers and gold miners and speak of the great dreams many had brought to the Yukon.
